One of the greatest gifts to me this month was a piano. I’ve been dying to play piano for nine months now. I’m not very good, but I absolutely love playing. Time just flies by when I’m playing piano, and afterwards I feel so much better. Since money doesn’t grow on trees, I’ve spent much of my time this week searching for free piano music on the internet. One of the songs I realized would be free was Great Is Thy Faithfulness. That song is really really hard. But it’s been very fun to practice. I’ll get it eventually. Great Is Thy Faithfulness has been a favorite of mine ever since coming here. And the lyrics are incomparable.
So with that in mind, here is a list of things that God has given me this month, even though I’ve ignored him, yelled at him, and otherwise treated him terribly:
- The chance to see my family
- A piano
- Free sheet music for said piano
- The fact that I still remember how to play the piano after almost one year off is a miracle in and of itself.
- A new phone
- Books to read
- Perfect places to read
- Art for my bedroom walls
- A chance to see God's glory in nature
- Time with people who just get it
- A chance for my skin to see the sun (and get really really sunburned)
- The ability to survive the summer heat
- The chance to go to a Western-style-rock-concert Sunday service (and it was amazing)
- Safety on airplanes
- Zero problems at all airports
- Interesting current events to read about.
- The chance to say goodbye to my dad and brother three different times at the airport instead of one.
- The technical competency to do some hardware repairs on my computer (all by myself!)
- My sanity (relatively)
- Safety, physical health, and security.
- The funds necessary to pay for my existence.
- The internet finally working today so I could post this
That’s all I got right now. I’m still in healing and recovery mode from the past six months. But when I’m angry and sad, this list will remind me that God did show up this month. I just had to look at things a different way.
