Poem: Branches, Roots And Shadows

Posted on Monday, April 11, 2016

Branches, roots and shadows

All a part of a tree

The shape of the branches

interact

with the light that is present

and casts

a shadow.

Branches reflect the root system

The shadow can only grow as the branches and roots take shape and grow

It is all a tree except for the shadow, which is just the shape cast by its form.

God made us, we are humans made in His image

Just like a seed is just as tree-like as a tree

It will only ever become a tree, or it will die

Our actions are like the shadow of the tree

How we have grown impacts the shadow that we cast, the actions that we make

But we are not our actions

They are connected to us like the tree’s shadow

But I would never say that the shadow is a tree

God made us as His children

We sin and make mistakes but these actions do not define our identity

He has already conquered that battle

We are gifted with His grace

Our identity is in the Creator

No matter the shadow that is cast, He says,

“that is my tree”

and it grows…

Bigger, stronger and tremendously elaborate.
