So the last couple weeks have been challenging for me. I tend to be a bit of a “go getter” liking the feeling of accomplishing things, solving problems and helping people. I also am normally very active and spend as much time outside and on my feet as possible. So when my knee was not recovering as quickly as I had hoped I down played it telling people, and myself, I was sure I would be walking by next week, and I really didn’t need any help, that I was just a little slower than usual. However, I was really in quite a bit of pain and at my second post op check up my doctor was taken aback by how little progress I had made.
Sometimes we wonder why God lets us go through painful and challenging circumstances and here are a few of the reasons I have meditated on this week.
- To humble us
- To grow us in compassion for others
- To slow us down when we get too busy
- To build in us patience and perseverance
- To refocus us on what is really important
- To help us depend on Him more
The underlying theme in all of these is to make us more like Jesus. One verse that in my mind fits this all perfectly is 2 Cor 12:9-10 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ”Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
So in my being physically weak, will I choose to be weak, or will I choose to let Christ in me be strong?
To wrap up however, I have some outstanding news. That is after all my meditation and trying to learn what God has to teach me in the midst of this trial, I was able to start walking this morning! I took my first unsupported steps without crutches since my surgery and felt a little like a toddler again (except it might hurt me more if I fall!) so Praise God.
Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. I couldn’t do this without you.
