Hi Friends!
Personal Update:
Whew, it’s been a whirlwind of adjusting, emotions, dreaming, and praying, but we are going into our second month here in Bangkok better than I ever would have imagined!

Sarah and I officially unpacked our suitcases last week and have started making our apartment more normal.  I never knew how much of a difference a fridge, plates, cups, plastic drawers, and all those things could make me feel.  Apart from feeling more comfortable at home we are starting to feel more comfortable in the city in general.  We have a pretty intense commute everywhere we go, but it’s finally starting to feel stable.  We are having fun finding the silver lining in every form of transportation and exploring our surroundings.

This past weekend we had a retreat as an organization and I got a much needed break from intense immersion and ministry.  I had been feeling very stressed before, but now I’m refreshed and ready to get my head back in the game!

Ministry Update:
Teaching English
Today was the last day of English pre-level 1!  Please pray for our awesome students as they transition.  Those who passed today's test will move to English level 1 and those who need more practice will have the chance to repeat pre-level 1.  We are excited because with six teachers in the classroom and about 13 students (currently) we can format our class time to fit those needs.  Sarah and I live upstairs from the community center where we teach, so we also have the chance to work one on one with students whenever they want to study.

Kid’s Program!
Today was also the kickoff for our first week of a new kids program for our community!  I am so excited because God has obviously opened the door for us to be a positive influence on the kids here.  They are so precious!  Sarah and I spend every evening outside playing games with the little ones and the teens.  They are a fun bunch and they make me laugh a lot.  I wish I could share pictures, but for safety reasons we as a team have agreed not to risk exploiting any of the kids.  Decisions like that are hard, but sadly necessary.  I will do my best to paint vivid pictures through future blogs and newsletters.  I already have some great stories to share!

Rian Phassaathay (Thai School)
I never considered language school part of “ministry” before, but now I’m seeing it as a major part of the work I get to do.  If I don’t understand the language, it creates a giant wall between me and everyone around me.  I’ve got a full workload, and I’m trying to learn as fast as I can.  The problem is I’m a slow learner and I’m honestly burnt out on school.  However I LOVE the people learning with me and I adore the teachers!  Sometimes I don’t want to drag myself out of bed, but then I think about my new friends and I can’t stand the thought of missing time with them.  God is blessing me abundantly through the friendships He’s given me there!

Please join me in praying for:

  • Our English students as they transition.
  • The wonderful little children God has entrusted us with, and our new kid’s program.
  • Comfort and healing for those who are grieving the death of a wonderful woman named Pii X.  She was a dear friend to many of my staff leaders, and a significant influence on Servant Partners.  Her battle with cancer came to a sudden end last week.  It has been an extremely difficult time of mourning for her friends and family.
  • Continued blessing over healthy relationships being built.
  • Continued health and smooth cultural adjustment for me and my teammates.  Please especially pray for my dear roommate Sarah as she continually has been sick and currently has an eye infection.
  • Mercy on my ability to learn the language.  Lord let me absorb Thai like a sponge absorbs water!!
