Dear Future Goers, I have just finished my 2 year commitment living in Bangkok, Thailand. While I want to refrain from sounding cliche and repetitive, I can honestly say nothing impacted my relationship with the Lord, my understanding of God's word, and my view of people like living in a slum in Bangkok did. And I am excited to be writing to you as you embark on your journey to the world faithfully following the commandment to "go to the ends of the earth" in the name of Christ. This past Sunday, P'X (yes, "X" is her actual nickname, the "P" is the Thai form of "Mr." or "Mrs."), one of our church's members here in Bangkok, who has been fighting stomach cancer for the past few months went to be with Jesus. She was a wonderful woman of faith, a loving mother and wife, and a simple lover of Jesus. Her service and smile were very much adored and appreciated in our little church. My flip flop broke yesterday. I looked down and noticed yet another ripped hole in my t-shirt. My appearance is anything but nice and put together. Usually I don’t notice. Usually it doesn’t bother me. I do my thing and rock my “slum look” without a second thought. Stains on my shirts from who knows what. Rips in my jeans. Patches sewn on top of patches to cover up the holes. My mother would have a fit. (And if you’re reading this mom, consider this a mini-warning of what you’ll see when you come visit me).
