Central Athens is a diverse section of Greece’s capital city teeming with local Greeks, immigrants, and tourists from all countries and walks of life. As a European city, but geographically located at the crossroads between east and west, it includes a rich cultural history while still taking on a unique character because of its place along migrant routes. As a team, we work to be bridge-builders, bringing people together to help the oppressed of the city. We seek to develop networks of holistic ministries that encourage life, healing, and reconciliation in our community. With many assets in our community focusing on physical and spiritual needs, we hope to address the gaps in psycho-social support for those who have experienced traumatic situations.
In order to accomplish this, we started a non-profit called Veemata Mazi, which means “Steps Together” in Greek. Through Veemata Mazi, we work to create safe spaces of creative expression using alternative processing methods as well as providing psycho-social educational opportunities that equip those in vulnerable situations to feel empowered with strategies and tools that encourage psychological health regardless of the situation they find themselves in. We seek to be a resource for a wide range of people groups including those in refugee situations, domestic abuse victims, and victims of sexual exploitation. In addition, we equip those who walk alongside victims in helping relationships with tools to encourage healthy and sustainable trauma-informed care. Veemata Mazi has four main aims:
1. To provide training for front-line workers in organizations to care better for the mental health of themselves and their beneficiaries (anti-burnout, trauma-informed, and artistic therapeutic interventions trainings to name a few).
2. To facilitate alternative therapeutic interventions such as through art, music, or movement.
3. To bring people together around conversations about resources and root causes in mental health here in Greece.
4. To help deepen an integrated practice of mental and spiritual health.
This position would involve the creation and maintenance of a digital presence for a non-profit focusing on psycho-social support in Athens. Formulation of strategies for consistent messaging about non-profit goals and regular updating of the nonprofit's website as new programming is rolled out will be included along with various other administrative tasks related to communication and promotion of trainings or new courses.
