Afterschool Program Leader or Mentor

The word “refugee” often stirs strong emotions. But what if, in His sovereignty, God allowed some to be uprooted—not by accident, but so they might finally encounter the hope of the Gospel? That’s the story of one East African Muslim people group. For decades, they lived in a nation closed to Christian workers. Persecuted and unreached, they fled a brutal civil war to refugee camps.

Now, over 95 families have resettled in a northeastern U.S. city. While they’ve found safety from war, they face immense challenges adapting to life in America with gaps in language, education, and job skills. Yet, in the midst of struggle, many have reached out for help. God has raised up a team of Christ followers to meet practical needs, build trust, and share Jesus—leading to growing openness within the community.

Our afterschool program supports elementary-aged children navigating cross-cultural life, trauma, and transition. We offer structure, stability, and warmth—with clear expectations, consistent boundaries, and caring adults who model patience, presence, and the love of Jesus.

Your presence can bring light to an underserved, often invisible community. As you invest in children and walk with families, you’ll have the chance to share the hope of Christ—perhaps with someone hearing it for the first time.

Leader Role:

As an Afterschool Program Lead, you’ll oversee daily operations, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. This includes opening and closing the center, supervising staff and volunteers, coordinating activities, maintaining positive relationships with children and families, and reporting to the program director. You’ll also assist in developing a mentorship track for older kids aging out of the program.

Mentor Role:

As an Afterschool Program Mentor, you’ll ensure smooth operations, manage snack time, support volunteers, and build relationships with families. You’ll also assist our director in developing a mentorship track for older kids aging out of the program.
