"Speak words we can all understand!"
In high school, I took three years of Spanish and was pretty mediocre at it. I’m sure many of you could relate to that. I was taught a bunch of grammar rules which I barely studied. I was made to speak words that I mostly forgot after high school. I almost never used it outside of class, except for the odd sign or two around town which I could actually read. Bottom line: I didn’t care a whit about Spanish, and I never planned on using it. So, obviously, I didn’t learn it! Not enough to get by with it, that’s for certain. “A perfect house…Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness.”
I grew up in one home. I mean, my family literally never moved after I was born. We didn’t travel a whole lot—at least not far. The furthest I traveled with my family was only a few states over. I commuted to university too, so from birth to about 21 years old, I was only really familiar with one place. Home was very easily defined for me. That time has been spent primarily walking around town with teammates so that we know where everyone lives, staying awake so that our sleep schedules can figure out what is normal (nap is death!), and trying to eat "normal" (American) food so that our bodies have to deal with as few changes as possible. We have had our hand held… Read more >>
“I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread.”
Lately my life has been rather…intense. (You know with the moving of my life to another country thing and all). I usually write with some point in mind, but for this blog post, I simply find that the pressures of this month take up so much space all I can do is talk about that. So this month, I just want to share the reality that my wife and I are facing at this exact moment. We currently have a lot of schoolwork/homework. Ironic, huh? We graduated a year ago, yet our homework load hasn’t ended. Training–apparently for the mission field like any other–is mostly reading and then… Read more >>
