I have been thinking about this day for almost a year. How would I feel? Would the nerves overtake the excitement? I am still unsure of all that the day will hold but the Lord has been so faithful even when it hasn't always felt like it. As the day draws near for departure so does the Father.
This is my last full week with my family before I leave. I said "See you later" to my college friends and shared many lasting memories with those I love. After so many goodbyes I began seeing this day as one of fear, one of leaving behind loved ones, missing out on experiences, and in general just pain. Thankfully the LORD gently reminded me of what this day is really about. Yes, there is good godly grief and tears will be shed, but this day is also full of hope, joy, and excitement! Jesus is taking me on an adventure where I will meet friends I will wonder how I lived without them for so long, and grow immensely into a better daughter, sister, and friend. I will miss my family immeasurably and it will be hard. But the LORD is teaching me not to suppress the sadness but also to remember the joy. So I will take this day as it is: joyful, hard, exciting, and scary. But I will choose to trust the Maker and Sustainer of this day. I can hold fast to the promise He has without a shadow of a doubt called me to this place, with these people, at this time. I know He has already gone before me, preparing me as well as my way. He goes with me holding every tear and carrying me into a wonderful adventure that is for my good because 'He delights in the welfare of His servant'. He goes behind me, comforting my family and loved ones as well as sharing with them more of His character. This time overseas is not just for me, but I know He will use it in my family, friends, and future family as well. This is not an end but a wonderful beginning!
"This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24
