Start of Something New

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

2 Corinthians 5:17

A few days ago, I bought a shirt that says, “i cry a lot”. Partly because I wanted to support one of my favorite YouTubers but mostly because I felt it was accurate to who I was.

Last month, I attended cross-cultural training in North Carolina for a total of 7 weeks. Beforehand, I was super nervous because the thought of being outside of my home state with people I wouldn’t know made me really anxious and doubtful. Previous experiences have told me that I wouldn’t be able to make friends with people in such a different stage of life than myself. So, I ended up preparing myself for an unpleasant time.

During this time, God showed me that you don’t have to be the same person you’ve always been. I noticed it first through all of the personality tests we took. One of the tests was the Myers-Briggs. I had taken it in high school so I was already familiar with my four string of letters but when I took it again, I received a different type (which was very accurate). It was such a surprise. It never occurred to me that I could be a different temperament 6-7 years later.

Lastly, becoming close friends with people that I’ve only known for a few weeks was something that didn’t come easily.  Once I decided to let the Lord open doors for these new connections, relationships started forming so naturally to where goodbyes became bittersweet.  Today, I am very thankful for this experience and proud of myself for being open to change.  I learned something important these last few weeks: when you are obedient and allow God to work in your heart, He will use you and change you into what you need to fulfill your purpose.
