My letter to future goers

Posted on Friday, November 29, 2024

Dear Future Goer,

I’ve been praying for you. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. I’ve been praying to the Lord of the harvest to send us more laborers, so I rejoice that he answered by sending you! I’ve been at my placement for nearly 3 years now – I decided to stay beyond my initial 2-year commitment. I’ve learned A LOT the past 3 years, so I’ll just share some highlights:

  1. The Lord is able and willing to provide for ALL of your needs. I know support raising sounds like the worst, but it’s actually such a beautiful way to see the Lord provide for ministers of the gospel through the church. And lay down the imposter syndrome. He’s more than able to equip you for the work he’s called you to!
  2. Obeying the Lord’s leading is always worth it. Especially when it sounds crazy. Some of the most incredible miracles happen when people step out in faith and risk looking ridiculous.
  3. Trust God, even when you can’t see what’s happening. He has good plans for you, even when what you thought was his good plan falls through. What he’s up to is even bigger and greater than you can imagine.
  4. Don’t take yourself so seriously. Of course, there’s gravity to the work you’re doing, but don’t let that keep you from laughing with locals about your language mistakes or cultural faux pas. Laughter is good for bonding.
  5. Press into prayer. Talk to God about everything, all the time. Your observations, questions, doubts, and emotions. Not many people understand what you’re going through, but he does. And he has marvelous things to show you and teach you.

I hope that helps as you prepare to go. I’m excited to see you out here!
