Future Goers,
I am so excited for you! This two year commitment is going to stretch you, change you, grow you, and transform you. Based on personal experience, I think there will be moments when you wonder what the heck you signed up for. There will probably be moments when your heart aches for the comforts and feelings of home, of your people. However, there will also be so many moments where you just stand in awe of God for the way He is working. You will be moved to tears at his gentleness and faithfulness to you in the midst of such trying times. I am excited for you to experience this journey and my prayer is that the Lord is alive and active in every part of your process.
Don't hesitate to reach out and use the support systems around you. Whether its a community from home, GoCorps, or your sending organization, be sure to have people you stay connected with. Having people who remember the names of your new friends, who try to understand what your job entails, and who ask good questions are key for survival on the field. Use your support system and don't be afraid to ask for help, encouragement, and support. Make sure you also rejoice with them! Share the good stories and funny moments. Remember little details of their life too and make sure things are celebrated from near and far. The Lord does good, good work with community and thanks to this global age, our community can cross continents!
Lastly, don't forget to pack all the power converters and transformers, look into VPNs ahead of time, and clearly determine what is expected of you within language learning.
Good luck! Enjoy it and know that you have a community around you, rallying, interceding, and encouraging you along the way!
Serving alongside you,
A thankful, appreciative, and transformed former Goer
