It’s been over four months since I landed here in Zambia, and what a joyful, four months it has been! I’m starting to get into more of a routine and schedule, so I thought I would share what a “typical” Tuesday in my life looks like right now!
Tuesday:
- 6:30am-7am wakeup calls by the neighboring rooster and birds and the occasional “thud” of an avocado falling from our tree
- 7am-9am coffee and Jesus time, pray for my donors, workout, get ready for the day
- 9am-11am Beginner Empowerment Group meeting (a group of 9 women meet together to learn business skills and receive a micro-loan)
- 11am-3pm communications and social media updates, updating finances and budget, lunch (if it’s a particularly busy day I’ll get chicken and nshima from our favorite local restaurant)
- 3pm-5pm lesson plan for Youth Bible Study and one-on-one mentorship
- 5pm-7pm mentorship with a young woman learning business training and discipleship
- 7pm-10pm dinner, watch a show about snakes in South Africa with my leaders, relaxing, reading, bed
And that’s what my Tuesdays look like! In ministry, and especially ministry abroad, schedules are very flexible. In Africa particularly, schedules are barely followed. Each day is filled with relationship building that takes time and is more important than the list of “to-do’s” that I have. So while having a schedule and routine is important, there has to be space for the Spirit to move.
