As each day goes by here in Zambia I feel more and more settled. I’m buying more things to help me in my life here with the biggest purchase being A CAR! A few weeks ago, I was able to purchase a 2008 Toyota RAV4. It feels so good to have my own car and be able to get around and do whatever I need to do without taking my leaders’ car. I am so blessed and amazed that I was able to find this car and to get it under my budget! God is really good.
Whereas a car has been the biggest purchase I have made, it really is all of the small things that make me feel the most settled. A few weeks ago, I bought Tupperware. Tupperware. It’s not glamorous, but it’s a necessity. Buying Tupperware or just driving on my own to pick someone up are the moments of normalcy and settlement that I crave. Another day I baked sugar cookies, something I do all the time in the States. Sure there were some hiccups along the way, but it felt normal and right to be baking. It’s THESE moments that I am falling in love with. Moments of complete mundane normalcy.
I am currently reading Practice the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence. Brother Lawrence lived his life by being constantly aware of God’s presence in his day to day life. When he was washing dishes or going to pick something up, he was in community with God. I am trying to realize and reflect on God’s presence in these normal areas of life. It is such a wonderful thing to always be in His presence even when buying Tupperware.
