From my hood to God's heart

Posted on Friday, September 13, 2019

This is my first ever blog post , so give me some grace. I am here at Goweek, we just finished up our support raising training. I'm not sure what to say , so I'll start at what led me to Gocorps

I have been a Christian for most of my life. I did Sunday school , Christian camp (both as a child and then an adult counselor)  and VBS in like 4 different churches in my city (thanks mom). Surprisingly I didn't know that going overseas to serve Christ was something people did until I was almost done in college. I have never heard of missionary work or unreached people groups while growing up. In 2016 I was on a summer mission in New Hampshire and that is where I realized that there were people who just did not know about God. It was a strange concept for me because I spent my entire life learning about God. One of the first ever scriptures I memorized as a child that was, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love” Galatian 5:13. It confirmed my going  because it tells me how the freedom I have in Christ should be used so that I can serve others. I decided to go because  I want to be more Christ like, to share in the servant life he lived. I want to be of more use to God.  I want to serve by laying down my life for him.

A little about me My name is Tiajah ( tee-ah-jah). You're welcome for the pronunciation help.

I am going to Mexico to serve as an anti-trafficking support worker. I was born in raised in New Jersey in the inner city (the hood). Now I know what you are thinking , probably the same things I’ve been thinking, how on earth did I end up on this path? The only answer I have come up with is that God has a plan to use anyone, from anywhere to do anything.  He used a friendship that I made on a summer mission in New Hampshire in 2016  to connect me with gocorps 2 years later in 2018. God has an entire story that he is putting together. He used a person , then a family, then a nation all for Jesus to come. After Jesus came and left , He used 12 people to start spreading the gospel around. I don't want to miss out on what God is doing. I have had the amazing opportunity to learn about God my entire life. I want to do more than read and sing. I want to join the bigger story of  God. This is the story of God using a selfish black girl from the hood, and turning her into a compassionate people loving Goer.

Let's see this story unfold together.
