You know the classic playground game called red light green light? Everyone would start out at one end of the playground and the goal of the game was to follow the simple instructions of the teacher and end up on the other side of the playground. When the teacher yelled out green light you would run as fast as your legs could carry you, but as soon as you got going, they would yell out either yellow light (slow down) or red light (completely stop). This game was fun and definitely taught my elementary brain how to follow instructions better. However, this next seasons seems filled with the same tendencies. At one moment, I could chose to run as fast as I can to my ministry abroad as I am overwhelmed by the passion, the need, and the excitement that awaits. And then, in the very next moment, I find myself wanting to slow down, think ‘practically’, or wanting to stop moving forward all together due to fear, doubt, and insecurity.
As I begin this final season in California before heading overseas, I can’t help but remember how I got here. This has been a dream and pursuit of mine since I was young and even though my ministry looks a lot different than my 5 year old knowledge of what a missionary should look like, I could not be more in awe of God’s goodness in bringing my gifts and passions together. And while there are still fears of the unknown and doubts about how ministry will work abroad, I know God has never left or failed me yet. I am excited to be taking this next step forward with the confidence that until God tells me red light, to just keeping moving forward in my green light.
