My Profession is a Kingdom Worker

Posted on Wednesday, July 3, 2019

Ever since I graduated two years ago and obtained my nursing license, I have found myself placing more of my identity in my role as a nurse.  And yet, as I come close to ending my time at the hospital, God has been stirring within my soul the truth that my profession is not nursing.  Yes, I am working as a nurse, but my true profession is, and always has been, that of a kingdom worker.  I just happen to have done that through working in a hospital for the past two years.

Yes, I am a nurse, and a former gymnast, and an avid lover of books, but those things are all peripheral to my core identity.  I am a child of God, a beloved of the one true King, and a worker for His Kingdom.  And ultimately, those are the identities that truly matter to me.  So as I finish up my time at the hospital, and continue support-raising, and move to the mission field, I hope that I am able to view these as they really are: kingdom work.  Nursing and support-raising are ministry just as much as what I’ll be doing in Ecuador is ministry.  So as a put my scrubs on tonight, I’m not going to work “just” as a nurse, but in my profession as a kingdom worker.
