Spanish Adventure!

Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2018

Hey all! My name is Matthew Sult, and I’ve chosen to partner with GoCorps and United World Mission to pursue a missions apprenticeship in Granada, Spain! Growing up I always wanted to go abroad and experience different cultures while meeting new people. I felt that the world was meant to be explored, and I’m glad that I’ll be able to realize that dream!

A bit about the visions of the ministries that I’ll be a part of:

GoCorps – They desire, “to raise up a movement of young adults who go and share the good news of Jesus Christ to the least reached globally.”

United World Mission – They want to, “equip leaders, establish churches, and engage holistic mission, calling the world to follow Jesus.”

Avance España – They are driven by three I’s: “Immersion, Incarnation, [and] Innovation.”

Coming from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a lot of people have asked me how I ended up choosing to go to Spain! (If you’ve never heard of Lancaster, check it out here and you’ll know why people have been asking). My story and passion to serve in Granada began in college, where I was a part of a ministry called Disciplemakers. As a part of this community, I was constantly pursuing what it meant to make disciples, as Jesus commands His own disciples to do in His final words on Earth (Matthew 28:18-20). While I learned how to make disciples, I didn’t have an outlet to share this good news with the nations! The summer before my senior year of college I was approached by a friend who invited me to join GoCorps, as he had already traveled with them internationally for two years. The thought of leaving my home and community for two years stunned me: I was fearful of leaving everyone for such a long period of time. However, as I was praying over this decision, I was encouraged and ultimately decided to pursue this opportunity because of Paul’s testimony in the book of Acts. He says this, “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24 ESV). When I read this passage, I realized that my life was not my own, but rather a living sacrifice to love others and to share the good news that I have received – salvation by the free gift of God through Jesus Christ. How could I not go? I invite you all to follow me on my journey to pursue Him and sharing Him in Granada through your prayerful support and this blog! I’m eagerly looking forward to how He continues to bountifully provide in this exciting adventure!
