I have been in Southeast Asia for two weeks. Here are a few glimpses into my journey thus far.
I am really enjoying trying new fruits. Jackfruit, seen above, is the size of a large watermelon and kind of tastes like juicy fruit gum. Each yellow case has a single seed inside. The texture is kind of like gummies. Each single Jackfruit has quite a few seeds. The one I enjoyed had enough seeds to fill about three gallon sized Ziploc bags.
I am currently in the language learning process and I am starting at the beginning of learning to read, write and speak using a new alphabet. I am very thankful for my patient teachers taking the time to repeat the same sounds and simple phrases over and over so I can begin to distinguish and repeat them. I am very thankful that I have several weeks of language classes before I start teaching.
I have been suprised by the number of fellow believers at work with different organizations in this location. I am thankful to have a community to step into and it has been really special to join different events to celebrate Christmas together.
Please join me in lifting up:
- finding long term housing arrangements
- my ears to be opened and my mouth released to hear and speak this new language
- joy in the new opportunities of each day of learning to live in this new culture
