I have been in training for teaching English as a foreign language over the past three weekends. I have really missed being able to be a part of a Christian community gathering on Sunday mornings. I didn’t realize Sunday worship was something I was taking for granted.
This season has brought me to a different level of weariness and worry as this path to teach in Southeast Asia becomes more real and I journey through the process of becoming ready. God put it on my heart to look for a community to be a part of this past Wednesday and I am so thankful for the ways God met me in that service. I found belonging in this new community as we sang a song recognizing the power of Jesus’ name. A brother in Christ shared the call of Matthew 11:28-30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I needed the reminder that in my weariness from training and all of the new things that God is calling me to step into, He is inviting me to rest in his provision and His bearing of the load of all the details. He is my provider and sustainer and He brings life and peace as I rest in His capable provision rather than focusing on my inadequacies in these new situations.
Later in the service, the pastor shared 2 Corinthians 9:8:
"And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
God is abundantly overflowing with goodness, grace, and provision for my every need. I am filled with all I need to pass on to fellow travelers in the journey of life that God calls us to. I will never lack because God is infinitely full of every good thing. I don’t need to worry about food, drink, physical provision, or community because God made me with each need, and has written my story to have every need met in Him and through His people. God's promise is not only to meet these basic needs but also for to give me everything I need for my work from every word and idea for lesson planning and teaching to wisdom in every relationship building opportunity that comes my way. I am thankful for God ministering to me through this new community this past Wednesday. I am excited to continue to see how God writes each step of my journey.
