The temptation to write-off this opportunity was so strong.

When I was contemplating spending two years abroad with GoCorps, I felt a lot of fear and worry. Did I really want to leave all my friends and family? Was I really gonna ask other people to provide all my financial needs? It would've been so much easier to just get out then.
Instead, the Lord led me in even deeper. He grabbed my heart with this placement. Serving in Artesia doing agriculture became the only thing I wanted to do. As I learned more and more about the team, the ministry they were doing, and what my role could look like, I became more and more excited. Before I knew it, I was all-in.
The worries and fears were still there, but they were overshadowed with the joy of God’s mission in the world. I think this is what James means when he says “perfect love casts out all fear.” It’s not always that fear completely disappears, but it becomes insignificant in the light of God’s love and goodness.
Recently, too, the Lord has transformed how I think about some of those fears. Raising my financial and prayer support no longer seems like a burden, but an opportunity to allow other people to partner with this team and the incredible work I’m being brought into. I want them to fall in love with this place and ministry vision the same way that I have.
For me, it’s been a long time stirring. From my first interaction with people from other nations and cultures that didn’t know the Lord, He has been growing that desire in my heart to consider something mission-related. However, my passions were biology and the environment. I didn’t see how that connected, but the Lord clearly gave me permission to pursue those things, and I trusted him.
Now, it’s all coming together. Countless other things in my story have been brought together in this one placement, and I’m excited to see how they all play out.
For now, I’m just really glad I didn’t unsubscribe.
