My country is by the sea, which means that I get to enjoy the beach quite often. I have discovered how much I love the ocean. It's a great place to talk to the Lord. Feeling the waves pushing against me makes me feel alive in ways I cannot truly express in words, but I try anyway.
February was a tough month and I needed to express myself. I was snorkeling and I was watching all of the beautiful creatures around me. I held my hands out in front of me and it was surreal. There I was, in waters full of life. I wrote the following poem as a result. It's a piece of my heart and what the Lord has been working on. Complete trust in him.
Give me the Ocean
Where my breath is so dependent-
My every move determined by the movement of the waves.
Where my trust must increase lest I start to drown
Having to believe you are supplying all that I need
Give me vision, to see what's in front of me-
When these waters threaten to cloud what's created
A world of beauty that points to you
If for a second I take my eyes off of you, I will begin to sink
Give me peace, so when I begin to feel afraid, I don't give in
But instead give myself over to you
Allowing you full access to my desire for control
My vain efforts to be in charge
Give me the waves -
That I may be reminded of your faithfulness-
And take comfort in this truth.
You wont let me drift to far without bringing me back to shore
Give me your truth, to anchor me down. Oh how easy it is to be thrown around
Let the ocean cause my heart to need you more.
The crashing around me a reminder that you have given me the ocean.
