It’s fall yall. Or at least according to the calendar it is. Here in Texas we had about a week of a “cold front” come through and it was a little chilly walking outside for a few mornings. If you are from the North you are probably laughing, but this is a real deal. We don’t get a winter down here. Sometimes a two week cold front, if we are lucky. So how would you spend your last couple of weeks home before you leave for two years? Doing what you love of course!
I love Texas, I love Football – And I most definitely love Texas Football! Let me tell you though, it can be heartbreaking to be a Texas fan. But, it’s never a loss with the traditions my friends have created. *Cheeesy*. I won’t be getting my fix of Saturdays at DKR over the next two years so I have been trying to make the most of the time I have here now. Our biggest game of the year, The Red River Rivalry, against OU was a few weeks ago in Dallas, as always. I was able to spend the weekend cheering on my Horns, seeing missed friends from Los, Angeles, New York, and Chicago and reliving the ole college days with the squad. There is still a few weeks of the season left, and that means a few more weeks for more memories with my best friends. What a comforting feeling it is to know that I will have such a strong support base thinking and praying for me while I am in Mexico City.
Next up, books on books on books. With my eminent departure approaching my team lead has recommended a few books to read before I arrive for work. One of them is “Out of the Salt Shaker & Into the World” by Rebecca Manley Pippet. The idea of the book is to help transform the idea of evangelism from a task or objective to be accomplished into a way of living life. And here is some truth. I’ve been pretty nervous about directly evangelizing to someone in Mexico. What if they aren’t interested, what if I can’t connect with them in a meaningful way? What if that burns the bridge? This book has helped address all of those questions. I am still working through it but it has been amazing to see how God has answered my frets with this book. As I mentioned in a previous blog, one of my favorite scriptures is about worrying. Who can add a day to their life by worrying? This is just the first of several I am diving into and am very much looking forward to the messages the others will bring.
The past few months the church has also been trying to revamp their “young adults” community. We frequently joke about the strange time this period of life is. We are seen as adults, and do adult things like pay taxes and dry clean our clothes. But, we still refer to ourselves as not “real” adults? Well this is a group aimed at community for this second awkward stage of life. The idea is just to have a group of like-minded people are able to do life together and create community. So far we have had a taco night, went to this haunted corn maze in the woodlands, have several events planned like pumpkin carving, Halloween parties, Friendsgiving and a Christmas party.

Plane tickets! I have received the green light from UWM to purchase my flight to Mexico. This is a significant milestone has it requires the majority of my support to be committed and coming in.
And on that note, I am fully supported! I have finally met 100% in support commitments and am at about 90% of that goal currently coming into my account. God is good.
