Meeting the needs of others is one of the biggest callings we have as followers of Christ. We see areas where each of us can pour into the lives of others every day, although we don’t always recognize them. Whether it is giving financially, spiritual guidance, emotional support, teaching or just working alongside someone; God wants us to help those in need. I have found the latter to be where most of my time is spent since I began my time here. I have had a chance to work alongside some great brothers, both those that are new believers and some who have been doing evangelism and discipleship for years, and one thing that I have found is that we can all learn something from each other and help where the other is lacking.
I have found that some people, men especially, have a hard time taking advice or help from others. However it is a biblical principle that we should be as iron sharpening iron. This principle applies to various aspects of our lives but I believe its most important role is with respect to our relationship with Christ and knowledge of His word. Of course it is important to meet financial needs as well as other physical needs, but I think our primary goal should be to see people’s lives transformed from the heart outward. Now that is not to say we can change someone’s heart, but we can be the door that Gods power flows through. So next time you feel that small tug to help someone, don’t ignore it, it may be an opportunity to show Gods love to someone who needs it.
