Anyone who knows about building any kind of large structure will tell you that the foundation is one of if not the most important part. As I am approaching month 2 on the field, it seems appropriate that as I am laying the foundation for my future here in terms of relationships and my position; I am laying the foundation for the future of this ministry. By the later I mean in the more material sense in that for the last two weeks I have been working with one of the guys in our biblical training program to lay the foundation for a new barn that will house the cows which, Lord willing, will be part of this ministries financial independence. Things haven’t gone as smoothly as one would hope with the building project but I have had a chance to share some thoughts with this young believer that I have seen him put into practice in his work.
One of the things I shared with him that I think all of us can use a reminder of is the verse in Colossians 3 where it’s talking about various roles in life. Whether you are a parent, spouse, child, worker, or whatever you role is, the Word of God tells us to do all things as to the Lord and not unto men. In the context of the work we are doing, we are under a bit of short schedule for the way we are doing this foundation and I can tell he is feeling the pressure from all directions. But, in the midst of needing to get everything done he has said that we are working for the Lord and we should do our best in what we are doing. I am glad that he understands this concept and I hope that others on the farm as well as all you reading this will find this truth something to be applied to our lives.
As time goes on I hope that the first couple of months will prove a solid foundation for me to continue working with and encouraging the guys as well as all those I encounter on this path that God has sent me down.
