A lot of the reason why I feel called to go to Berlin through Reach Global has much to do with knowing who God is. Since really coming to faith at the being of my college career, not only did I learn about the grace and love that God has for us, but I also learned about the greater purpose we are called to in being one of God’s children. Not only we are to love Him with all our heart, soul and mind, but we can serve him and reciprocate His love by loving and serving others. For He so loved the world that He gave His only son to die for our sins, not so that we would squander the grace he lavished on us, but to be good stewards of it by sharing the truth and hope of salvation through Jesus’ atoning death on the cross.
In Matthew 28, Jesus says: 19“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” This great commission is a powerful passage that has undoubtedly motivated many others to share the joy and hope that is found in Christ. Whether you live in the same town you grew up in or you feel God leading you to the other side of the world, we are all called to live life missionally. For me, I have felt a strong calling in my life. The compassion I have for displaced people through war and slavery along with my passion for the German language and culture have been strong indicators of God's path for me.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 says: “4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.” This verse is very powerful to me as look to be a good steward of the gifts and passions that God has given me. Knowing that they are of the Spirit and as I rely on Him in my life, I become less and He becomes more.
The vision for my life that God has given me is using my passion and knowledge of German language and culture to reach those who have found refuge in Germany after being displaced from war or slavery. Just thinking of the areas of struggle these people are facing makes my heart very heavy. From my past experience of missions, I know very well how emotionally taxing these areas of ministry can be due the potency of sin and devastation that surrounds people who have been through war and trafficking. Through reliance in God’s strength and by turning to him in every moment, I know that the God that can move mountains will be able to work through me to spread hope to these people.
