The Intentions Behind My Actions

Posted on Monday, December 10, 2018

Lately, I have been thinking about intentions, and how important it is to do things with the right intentions. Even if the actions are morally good, done with the wrong intentions it takes away from the good. So why do I do good deeds? I have to admit it is not always for the right reasons. Sometimes I fall into the trap of believing that I need to prove myself through my actions. That I need to show God and others that I am worthy of love. But I know that I don't need to prove myself to God in order to receive His love. He gives it freely to me and all I have to do is accept it. My salvation comes from Jesus dying on the cross for my sins, and once I confess that I believe I am saved by the grace and love of God who conquered the grave for me.

So why do I do good deeds? As thanks to God for all He has done for me. As a way to show glory to God who is worthy of all praise. I give myself up to my Creator so that I can serve the purpose He had made for me. I strive to surrender completely so that the Holy Spirit can transform me from the inside out. So that all that is good about me is from God. So that it is not my efforts that people see but God working through me. As I am transformed my world gets turned upside down, or I should say right side up because as God speaks into my life I learn all the ways that the world has it wrong and I see how God's way is the right way.
