An All Powerful God

Posted on Thursday, August 31, 2017

I once had a teacher in eighth grade who made the remark: " All I am saying is if God is all powerful, then can He make something more powerful than Himself?"  Obviously, that misses the whole point of what it means to have an all powerful God. Though at that time it wasn's so obvious to me. When I was in eighth grade I didn't  really know how to answer that question without thinking that it would take away from God. I believed that God could do ANYTHING. As I grew up I learned more about God and his nature. While God can create something out of nothing, split the seas, and raise people from the dead, there are still things that God cannot do outside of His nature.

I recently have thought about this question that my teacher posed nine years ago and I now have more confidence in my answer. God CANNOT create something more powerful than Him, but that doesn't make Him any less powerful than He is. God being all-powerful does NOT mean that He can do anything. We already know that He cannot sin. What makes Him all powerful is the fact the He nor any of us can make something that is more powerful than God. God's power is something that I am slowly becoming more aware of.  He has created the universe, He has created me, and He creates my destiny.

Overall, I have learned to trust in God's power and will. I cannot walk this earth alone and turn out any better than if I follow God. As I get ready to depart next week I am bracing myself for the unexpected and possibly the expected ways that God will show up and show me that He is in control. God's power is unbeatable, undeniable, and uncontainable.
