Here's the thing - I'm excited to start blogging and sharing with y'all how my life's been. I just don't know how to start. I feel there should be something special to kick off a thing like this. Altruistically, I want to give y'all the best I can, so I guess I'll just start by keeping things real.
The last month has been hard for me. May 1-3 I took the last final exams of my life (hopefully). May 4-5 I packed up my life to move home for the summer. May 6 I graduated from college. May 7-28 I led a team of college students on a short-term mission trip to build septic tanks in jungle villages. May 29-June 3 started the next two years of service to God overseas. Over the past week, I've been learning about support raising, what my life overseas will entail, and the struggles of relying on others for provision.
If I'm being honest, I'm tired. I've been "on" for a month straight, and it's starting to show. With each budget meeting and team-building exercise, I feel myself getting more and more emotionally and physically drained. I don't say this to complain; if anything my experience is a testament to God's divine grace and providence. If I was relying on my own strength, I wouldn't have made it half as long as this. But I think it's all for a reason.
Throughout this last season of life, God has kept making one thing clear to me - I can't live on my own power. I need Him to be the fountain of my joy, the strength of my back, and the author of my story. As I've reflected on my life, how I came here, and where I I'm going, it's clear that my life means nothing unless I'm working for His kingdom. I keep coming back to the simple words of Ms. Fanny Crosby, "This is my story; this is my song: praising my Saviour all the day long." I owe my life to God, and to live for anything else would be a waste of such a gift. This, this ministry, this service, is my story.
