What a week it has been at GoWeek! We've learned so much about what our next months of support raising and preparation are going to look like. It's all been a little overwhelming at first, but I am so confident that the Lord is working and growing me through the process. This has been a season I've looked forward to for several months now, and I'm thrilled to finally start actively working towards my "Go!"
For most of my life, I have been captivated with the idea of becoming a faithful Kingdom worker in a culture different from my own. Since my first trip to Mexico as an 8th grader, to trips in college to Hawaii and the Republic of Georgia, and after college to Greece, I’ve been drawn to the concept of a life entirely dependent upon God. During my time in Greece I worked in a refugee center, which sparked a fire in my heart to reach this marginalized group of people with the Gospel.
I met my husband in my last semester of college, and we recognized quickly that our hearts for the Lord’s work in the world were leading us to live and serve abroad. We were married in December 2016, and moved into the application process with GoCore shortly after. We were in contact with several different missions organizations, but the GoCore process really made it simple for us so we decided to move forward with them. My longing was to work with refugees anywhere there was opportunity. The options were at first overwhelming, but with the help of our coach we were quickly matched with a team that was a great fit for us.
We are now preparing to start support raising to move to the Middle East this Fall, and could not be more excited.
God has been so faithful in the entire process thus far, giving us reminders of His provision constantly. As just one example, we were looking at our finances while preparing to come to GoWeek, and realized we were about $800 short in our savings to be able to cover our regular monthly expenses along with the flights and training deposits. Around the same time, it had come to our attention that a family of one of our youth students at church was in need of a place to stay, as they were unable to sustain their prior living situation. We felt God pressing us to take this family into our home, and were talking and praying through the potential of doing so. Setting fear and doubt aside, we decided to move forward with inviting them to stay with us. After this, while cleaning out our spare bedroom to prepare for the family, I found an envelope with undeposited checks in it from our wedding. (See picture) The total of the checks added up to $800. It was only through our steps of obedience that the money was discovered. I have never before experienced such an obvious moving of the Lord in my life. His provision is faithful always, and that’s the hope with which I move into this new season of support raising.
