Well, I’m one month into fundraising and here's some stuff I’ve learned…
1. Fundraising is hard
To be honest, I’m pretty tired. I don’t care how organized you are, it’s very challenging to juggle all the communication involved in making lots of appointments. It’s takes a lot of energy to do all that you need to in raising your support.
2. Fundraising is fun
At the beginning of the month, I was mostly nervous about appointments. But I have found that sitting down with lots of people you know and sharing about your passion and what the Lord is doing is super fun. It’s awesome that my job is to spend time with a ton of amazing people and talk about Jesus. I’m now excited for most of my appointments. :)
3. Fundraising is weird
Every time someone tells me that they want to give me money each month for two years to support me, I am shocked. That is so incredibly generous. That is such a commitment. Living off of support is so weird in our cultural context. I have truly been blown away by the hospitality and generosity of God’s people.
4. Fundraising is temporary
I am already 4 weeks into my 10-week season of full-time fundraising. It has felt much longer at times but it has also flown by. I have been learning a lot. I think that happens more naturally when you are in a situation when you are so dependent on God and on others. I am so thankful to be in this, and I am also thankful that it will come to an end. I’m thankful that in a couple months I will be on a plane to follow the Lord’s heart for the Middle East.
