Be Where You Are

Posted on Wednesday, August 23, 2017

I am from a really small town called Paris, Texas. Paris like many other small towns does not have much to do and it is not the most exciting place in the world in a city of a little over twenty five thousand we are literally two hours from any major city, which makes it feel even smaller. Over the past three months during my support raising I have found that I am only physically here, but mentally, and spiritiually I find myself every where and anywhere but Paris. I have been so focused on what I will be doing in Berlin and so excited about spreading the gospel through sports in Berlin that I have completely forgotten that I am not in Berlin yet. Recently I was talking with one of my friends and I was telling him about how ready I was to just go to Berlin and start serving, but he gave me the brutal reminder that I am not there yet. He continued to encourage me to be where I am, which as un-exciting as it may be is Paris, Texas. Once he told me this it took me a minute to realize that I really have not been where I am, and not serving God locally at my home church. I keep telling myself that there is no point in me starting now if I will be leaving in February. How could I really help if it will only be for five months? The point is that God calls us to make disciples of all nations and last time I checked America is a nation, and just because I am not in Berlin does not mean I can not serve God and be active in my local church.
