17 things I learned in the first month of 2017

Posted on Thursday, February 2, 2017

1. The true meaning of the word winter.

2. Freezing rain; its a thing.

3. There are a new set of icons on my weather app that I had never seen before (see #2).

4.  Celebrate the little things, like when you successfully teach a group of 3rd graders how to correctly use "is" and "are" in a sentence.

5. Almdudler (an Austrian lemonade) is delicious.

6. Giving out semester grades is more complicated than you think.

7. For children, cabin fever sets in about one week after Christmas.

8. Having a good team around you is key.

9. Conflict can be done in a healthy way. When it is done properly, both parties can walk away feeling uplifted.

10. Sledding is a great passtime on a Sunday morning.

11. Snow is magical.

12. Snowcovered Prague is beautiful.

13. Mark 11:24 is true.

14. When you fall going up the stairs and almost take a colleague out with you, just laugh.

15. Don't just try to see the good in people, try to bring it out in them.

16. Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I love a good worksheet.

17. 2017 is off to a pretty good start.
