My first month in the Czech Republic has, I must admit, been much more overwhelming than I anticipated. I've never had to begin the school year before. When I was a student teacher last fall, I got to walk in during the third week of school and take over a class that an expert teacher had started. I definitely have a deeper appreciation for teaching and all of the teachers who start the school year so well. These past few weeks I have been so consumed with starting the school year that God has felt a little far away. My mind is full of thoughts about assessments, parent emails, homework, and the list go on. Thankfully, I have been able to find a few moments of rest. One of these moments came a couple of weekends ago when I visited a local, Czech church. This particular church meets on a boat (yes, an actual boat in the water). One Saturday there was a worship concert at this church, as a Swiss worship band was visiting the area. I went to the concert with a friend and was amazed. I watched as Czechs all around me (most of them young adults and teenagers), worshipped the Lord with reckless abandon. I remember standing there, being overwhelmed by the love these people had for God and thinking, "God is here." It was as if God was shaking me from a stressed stupor, saying "Look! I transcend all barriers. Differences in language, culture, and age, they are nothing to me. Here I am!" The Czech Republic is the second most athiestic country in the world. And God is here. There is nothing He cannot accomplish!
