The day I left my father gave me a letter. It was a hard day and in case he would not be able to tell me the words he wanted to say through all of our tears he wanted to make sure I had them.
Out of all the letters I have ever received this one has a special place in my heart. Since being here I have read it often. Sometimes it makes me sad and other times it makes me happy. In the sad moments I realize how much I miss getting to be with my dad and family. When I think about how much I miss them sometimes I honestly can't imagine how Jesus felt when it was His time to leave this earth and the people He loved so much. Other times I feel sad as I regret the many times I acted as an ungrateful daughter. But then in the happy moments I remember all the great times we have spent together and I feel at peace knowing my dad is proud of me for taking the steps I have.
This letter has reminded me how important it is to continue to read my heavely Father's words. A few months ago I read a book by A.W. Tozer about our pursuit of God. It convicted me as I was feeling very dry. I kept thinking "I've read it (the Bible) before, what's new?"
But then I thought about my earthly father's letter to me and how even when I knew what it was going to say it always impacted me in a different way. The more my realtionship grows with my father the more I want to go back and reread the words he wrote.
If my earthly father's words could do that, then how much more powerful is the inspired word of my eternal Father?! My relationship with my eternal Father has grown so much over the course of the past ten years. How much more is there to learn through hearing His word again and again?!
It was just the breakthrough I needed to get me out of my stubborn thoughts. I am so grateful for the gift that my earthly father is and even more grateful for the way my heavenly father has used his presence in my life to draw me closer to Him.
