I love my team.

Posted on Saturday, May 20, 2017

I've said many times over the past several months that God knew what He was doing when [fill in the blank]. That thought has crossed my mind in regards to my family, my previous job, the cross-cultural training I went through, the people who support me through prayer and finances, etc. Today, that thought is in regards to my team.

God knew exactly what He was doing when He created each of my teammates, when He drew them to the peace and forgiveness in His arms, when He led them to the field, when He put this team together. We each have our own special skills and affinities and our own experiences to draw from. We have individual personalities and preferences. We have varying cultural and linguistic backgrounds. One thing I love about this team is that even though we have so many differences between us (or maybe because we're so different from each other), we are family and we enjoy being together.

In the past month, we have celebrated three birthdays, shared numerous meals, enjoyed countless conversations, and laughed until our sides hurt. We pray with each other, encourage each other, and pitch in with various ministry programs when our teammates need extra help. Not only are we brothers and sisters in Christ, committed to working alongside each other, but we are also close friends.

My birthday passed recently, and that could have been really tough. I could have been super homesick and struggled with enjoying the day, but my friends here made that day so wonderful. Although I missed my friends and family back home, I felt completely loved here with my team. When we celebrated another team birthday this week, we just shared so much joy and love with each other. I can't say enough about the joy we have within our team.

Without the support, encouragement, prayers, and love of my teammates, I don't think I'd be progressing in my work here. It's not just that they offer all of that to me, but they also allow me to be there for them as well. We are sharing this life of ministry together, and it's beautiful. God knew exactly what He was doing when He formed this team, and He knows exactly what He's doing this moment as He leads short term workers back home and brings more to us. He is so good.
