I’ve had moments over the last few months when I’ve thought this is all up to me. It all depends on my strength and my ability and how hard I work. I get caught up in the idea that raising support rests solely on my shoulders. Even when my eyes are focused on Jesus and I’m depending on Him for strength and ability, it still feels like it’s just me sometimes, as if I’m the only person in this equation.
So the other day, I was updating a few of my friends on my support raising. I explained that I only had a little bit left to raise – some monthly and some start up. These friends are already committed to supporting me monthly, and I wasn’t asking them to do anything extra, but on their own, they decided to reach out to others right then and there and do what they could to bring in that last bit of my support.
This is a simple story, and there’s not much to it, but it really stuck out to me. That moment reminded me that God is using others, not just me, to invite people into this adventure. I’m not alone in this. It’s not all dependent on my work, or even on the strength that the Lord has given me alone. He created us to need and to have community with each other, not to view our work (including support raising) as solo projects. He is working in many ways through many people to bring in His provision for His calling in my life. Just as God grew a passion in my heart to share His love overseas, so He has built up a drive and desire in the hearts of my friends to send me where He is leading. My partners are truly partnering with me in more ways than one, and I’m absolutely grateful.

To anyone who is raising support or will someday raise support, you are not alone in this work. Jesus is already preparing your support team, and He will bring those people to you who will minister to you just as much as He uses you to minister to them.
