Thanksgiving Update

Posted on Wednesday, November 30, 2016

Hello Readers!

It's been an eventful month over here in Asia. The holiday seasons present us with some great opportunities for sharing the gospel among the locals- since everyone here is always so excited to learn about American holiday traditions.
After more than a month and a half of planning, we put together a large Thanksgiving outreach event for our local church, where we invited more than two hundred locals and students to come and take part in an American Thanksgiving. At the event we were able to share about the origins of Thanksgiving and why we do it (a time to come together as families to give thanks to God) and serve American food- I ended up making a hundred pounds of mashed potatoes for the event, which isn't a common dish here. Some believers from the campuses put on skits depicting scenes from the Bible, and the Gospel was shared with those who came- leading to several decisions for Christ and a number of new relationships. A great night!

A couple nights ago we also had a great breakthrough in one of the Muslim neighborhoods in the city, who decided to allow us to come in and put on our Thanksgiving event again for them. The leaders asked us to not to talk about Jesus specifically, but we were still able to present several skits from His teachings, and get our foot in the door to develop relationships among the Muslim community.
We're already planning and looking forward to some Christmas events next month, and prayer is always appreciated for these outreach events. They're going to be great!

Happy Thanksgiving!
