YO VOY! (I am going!)

Posted on Wednesday, August 31, 2016

Friends, family, country men... lend me your ears! Or rather, eyes.

As most of you do not know, I am in Chicago! "For what?" you may ask. Well, I am in training for my two year mission to MEXICO! Yes, Mexico. This training is what GoCorps calls "GoWeek."

In fact, I am sitting right now at International Teams' headquarters in training as we speak. This is actually part of my training (how to write a blog post.) I'm supposed to be done by 12:30PM (it's 12:00PM people). I do not like writing blogs, nor have I ever written one. So, this is going to be a very rough draft.

As painful as it is to write this, I can honestly say that this training has been filled with joy, laughter, and fun. I am so thankful to have met the 17 other recent graduates who are here. It is comforting to know that I am not the only one taking this huge leap of faith, getting ready to be completely thrown from my comfort zone.

I have heard so many stories of how God has brought together skills, passions, and newly acquired college degrees to be used in nations deeply in need of His love, joy, and hope. Some students are building water systems in the East, another is joinging a team to create an app for indigenous people to access God's word through their phones.

And as I share with them how the Lord has brought my passion and degree to fulfill His work in the world, I am amazed. I won't be getting into that now, however. I have 10 minutes.

To the future Goers of this world and anyone who feels like God is calling them to a vocation/ministry/career, I suggest reflecting on what brought you to that thought/hope/dream and then repeating it to anyone who will listen! Doing this throughout the week with my fellow Goers has made me realize that God HAS, without a doubt, called me to go.

I will be holding on to the story He has written thus far in bringing me to Mexico. It will not only encourage me, but also be a weapon with which to battle against any doubts or lies that will surely attempt to rear their ugly heads before leaving the U.S. (That's in January, by the way).

I cannot wait to start my support raising. It is going to be scary at times, and discouraging, but the Lord is so much greater! There were many things in my life that could have hindered me from even getting to this week, but God has gotten me here regardless. So as I begin this journey of creating partnerships, I will not be wholly dismayed when difficulties arise, because God is going to prove faithful just as He did before Goweek, and as He always has.

WOOHOO! :)

With Love,

Cecilia
