I was talking with my mom recently. She asked how things were going and the words slipped out of my mouth, before I even realized I felt them (it’s actually a regular occurrence for me).
I said, “I’m learning a lot about grace.” Grace for myself. Grace for other cultures. Grace for the world and the people around me. It was quickly followed by, “I haven’t learned it, but I’m learning I need to…”
I love this quote from Ann Voscamp: “Some part of the art of life is the art of believing — that the grace in the pocket is sufficient for today, that the celebration and the feast is wide enough to encircle all of you too, that the candles light you too.”
My prayer is that where I end, Jesus would begin, and that I learn to give grace more freely, as our Father does- grace to stutter over (or butcher) new language vocabulary, grace to miss cultural ques and navigate new relationships, grace to rest, grace to not “know”, grace to feel, grace to miss deadlines, grace to forget to return phone calls or emails and the grace to meet others exactly where and as they are.
So friends, this is where I am right now. May we know that our Father’s grace is never ending and that is it always. Always enough.
