The journey begins by taking the first step forward.
The first step may have been months ago now--nearly a year, in fact--when I first looked up the GoCorps website to look at opportunities overseas. It was a friend who suggested the opportunity in Germany to me, and my initial thought was, "That sounds cool! Why not?" But now, as I meet my team, hold support materials in my hands, and read the description of what I actually signed up to do, it’s much more than a “cool” idea. A deeper understanding of the reality of the work ahead is settling in. I see that the journey has well started already. Not only that, but that this journey is one of taking hold of the promises of God over my life, and ultimately, sharing the love and promises of God among the nations.
Currently, all the 2015 Winter Launch Goers are in Pittsburgh, PA for GoWeek. It’s like a grand kick-off week of learning about our placements and how to get there. Moments of peace and rest are interspersed into hours of lectures and community time. One of these moments we spent dispersed throughout the woods at a nearby state park. I found my way down to the stream and began scampering around the rocks and boulders lining the creek. We were instructed to read over Romans 12, and as I did the concept of being a LIVING sacrifice reverberated through my mind. The sacrifices of the Old Testament were dead, and yes, as Christians we die to our flesh, but each day we need to choose to climb back onto the alter. This sacrifice of my life is not one that will end. It will be all a part of the journey.
