I have been a Nicaraguan for 6 months today! I haven’t written in a while so I’ll here is what I have been up too: a lot of Spanish tutoring. Still. Since you all know me, you know how patient I am (jokes). Well, God knows how patient I am and apparently wants me to work on that. My patience is getting tested by trying to learn a new language, working with locals that have a different mentality and upbringing than I do, and waiting to feel like I am doing anything productive.
A lot has been going on though. Three weeks ago I was able to join a mission trip to the remote northeastern region of Nicaragua. Almost 50 people from Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Nicaragua, and Mexico went to encourage the indigenous Miskito people in their faith. These people live so remotely that there are no roads to their village. So, 50 people got into 4 oversized canoes to sleep in tents for 4 nights in 3 different locations just to pray for people. Now that is answering the call. We were humbled by the way the women carried buckets of river-water up a hill just so we could bathe and inspired by the joy of a community who might have been materially poor, but obviously rich in the Holy Spirit. We pray that the support we gave to the local churches and pastors continues to strengthen them and the missionaries who got to experience this trip have the courage to continue to listen to God’s will for their life.
Two weeks ago my mom and three of my girl cousins came to visit me! It was a timely blessing because all of my American counterparts are visiting the States. I’m happy that I got the opportunity to show them the ‘real’ Nicaragua that we work with as well as the beautiful beaches and volcanos. I am countless lucky that God called me to a mission field that although the culture makes it feel like I’m a world away (seriously guys, this is NOT Mexico) I’m a relatively quick flight from home. We always enjoy sharing our heart and work if anyone ever wants to visit.
