I am enjoying my first month of soaking up the culture and environment of my new home: Masatepe. Here is a few of the blessings God has provided for me since I have arrived.
- My host family is amazing! I live with a doctor, his wife, and their 18 year old daughter. Not only are they extremely warm and generous, but they get me; I was nicknamed ‘hambrita,’meaning little hungry one.
- Dayana, my host sister, speaks perfect English. She has introduced me to all her friends, become my work out buddy, and goes to church with me.
- My current level of Spanish is at the perfect crossroad of progressing, humbling, and hilarious. I once told my first grade class “please close your notebook and put it in your knife” knife=cuchillo, backpack=mochila. Where is Dora when your need her?
- I have been able to explore the beauty of Nicaragua by hiking to a lagoon and touring the popular destination of Granada, where I got to feed a very fat, wild monkey.
- Not only did we reach our crucial goal for Allthingscoffee.org, but we surpassed our it by reaching 201 supporters and selling over $30,000 worth of merchandise!
- I was able to visit the doctor, aka my host dad, at his office, aka a room in my house, and go to the pharmacy, directly across the street, all at 9:30 at night. Plus I only had a cold, which trust me, I have heard it could be must worse.
- All is going well with Hannah’s pregnancy, with no pressing word of the Zika virus in our area.
- The picture is of one of my first friends in Nicaragua, Andrea. This is a picture of her reading a children’s bible in Spanish to me. I basically melted.
