Easter

Posted on Thursday, March 31, 2016

We do a few conferences for the children each year at There is Hope, especially around holidays such as Christmas and Easter. This month, we (the Sunday school teachers and I) put on an Easter conference for the children. Over 250 children showed up for this two day event, and we all had a ton of fun. They were so excited that they showed up hours before the event was supposed to start and waited for us. Most of them were there by 7 o clock in the morning! The first day the children got to watch a film in English about the resurrection, sing songs, play games, and when it was all over eat rice, meat, and vegetables cooked by a few ladies from a church in the camp. The second day, the teachers put together a skit on the death and resurrection of Jesus, they sang songs, played soccer, and had a few teachings, one from a teammate and then two children, on the death and resurrection of Jesus and what that means. They then finished off the day with rice, meat and vegetables again. It was so encouraging to see the Sunday school teachers running almost the whole event, I got to just hang back, make sure things ran pretty smoothly and watch the whole thing go down. Although I did not understand most of what was being said, it was all in Swahili, it was still a freash way to see the death and ressurection of Jesus and I gained a new perspective on it. It was neat to see it and hear it in a language I do not know and watch the children as they gain a deeper understanding of just what it means for us.
