As I started this, I had no idea what to share...I decided to post honestly how I am doing and hope it will be insightful to the people who care and are supporting me through this Journey. Right before Christmas break, my roommate and I were running the school while our director was away for 3 weeks. School itself was not difficult but spending 12 hours a day with someone 6 days a week was hard. Plus you add all the emotions about not being home for Christmas and we became impatient and negative about each other. By the time we finished school, things were quite tense between Angela and I. So, getting time apart to celebrate Christmas was just the right medicine to treat that tension and reduce the stress.
I started out the New Year watching a war zone worth of fireworks then joined Angela and the teachers @ Faith Academy for 2 days of professional development on Bible integration. It was very insightful and I returned to school feeling strengthened and more confident. As I reread this I realize I am venting about my relationship with my roommate but no matter what God is bigger than any of this. When I needed it God wrapped me in his arms and held me close. This month I worked hard on making connections with the Singles Small Group at Faith Academy on my own which means Angela and I are not always together. Grabbing coffee with someone, making cookies with some of the girls, having a movie night, and getting myself involved with youth ministry at Union Church of Manila and before I knew it January flew by.
Sometimes it is hard to be half way around the world. When you hear your “younger brother” (Tommy Brewton) broke his collar bone, your Pap is in the hospital, or your friends lost their little girl ten days after she was born at 24 weeks, you want to be there. But I keep moving forward praying for them, knowing God is in control. Please pray for those people I mentioned and for me as I move forward here at Project Pag-asa.
