Something that I have become aware of recently is that I am not loving my enemies. Is this because I have been avoiding them? Or pretending I do not have any?
This topic has become a theme because of several events in my life that have taken place recently. I lost my wallet- (which was my fault and that brings up a whole other topic...) and my phone was stolen. Right in front of me.
This man took advantage of my kindness to help him with directions and in turn stole my phone. And before I realized what happened (which only took 10 seconds) he turned around and looked at me. When we made eye contact I was looking at him with concern that he wouldn't find where he needed to go. And he was looking at me because he fooled me and won.
How am I supposed to love someone who tricked me, took advantage of my help, and then stole something very important to me?
And how am I supposed to love all the people around me who could possibly do the same?
I think the short answer is that I can't. In my fallen human state- I have no reason to.
But that's just it- it's not just me- it is Christ in me. And through the power of the Holy Spirit, I can love people that do not love me. Not that is is easy- but maybe that is not the point.
The point is that it is possible to love others through the power of Christ that is living in me.
What I need to work on is allowing the Holy Spirit room in my heart to work. To work within me. And then through me.
Here's to love,
Kelsey
