Journals. Brand new journals have such mystery and allure. They draw me in to a place of possibilities.
Old Journals tell stories of where they have been. They are history keepers and secret keepers.
My Journal: a little lonely in the month of December. I was able to sit down and write for a good while a couple days ago and thought to myself, "Wow, this is so good. Why don't I do this more?" It was like I was able to understand the person I was being and the person I was becoming. I was able to tell God in writing how things really were going for me. I was able to be myself.
I am reading a book called "Sacred Rhythms" and the featured discipline for this month is Solitude. I read the title and was like "Uh oh!" (I have not been doing that.....) Here is an excerpt that I found meaningful:
"When we don't attend to our vulnerabilities and instead try to repress it all and keep soldiering on, we get weary from holding it in. Eventually it leaks out in ways that are damaging to us and to others."
In one word I can sum that up: "December."
I was not the person that I wanted to be last month. And it took some time to journal it out to realize why and what was causing that.
My journal is not the thing that provided me insight into my life. It cannot respond or react to anything that I write. It was the Holy Spirit that came and gave me insight into my life. It was grace from God that helped me to be real with myself and with God. It was the forgiveness that I have found in Jesus that allowed me to forgive myself.
So, for me journaling is a way that allows me to understand who I am and who God is. It is a path way that I need to take in order to process life.
Do you know how you process? Internally? Externally? I challenge you to sit aside some time to think and process with the Lord. What is he teaching you about yourself? What is he teaching you about Himself? Enjoy it, even if it is difficult.
Until next time,
-Kelsey
