Sometimes it is hard to think about all the things that God is doing. This can happen for several reasons. The reasons probably stem from this root- selfishness.
Being too busy- selfish. Inward focus- potentially selfish. Distractions- self inflicted selfishness. But wait, is all selfishness self inflicted? Hmmmmmm.
I am sick and therefore very prone to the selfishness persuasion. Each time I cough or twinge of ear pain I think, “Why? Why am I not feeling better already? Me me me me me! God, don’t you want me to get better? I mean, I have missed out on two days of language learning. Gosh.”
Nothing about that is God centered.
My cohort (the 4 other people who came with me to Berlin) has been studying James. We picked it because there are 5 chapters and there are 5 of us, so we each lead on a chapter. (little did we know, you could spend like 5 weeks alone on each chapter!) Last night we talked about James 3- the taming of the tongue. After the study concluded we wrote down a take away or action point from the chapter. Here is mine:
“Evaluate where there is jealousy and selfishness in my life and ask God to replace it with peace.”
No big deal right? Ha!
This action point is pulled straight from James 3:16 (The Voice Version)
“Any place where you find jealousy and selfish ambition, you will discover chaos and evil thriving under its rule.”
Looks like the Lord has provided me some time to cash in on that action point. Under normal circumstances I would say yay! Time to process and see what the Lord is doing! But then, what is normal? Is a sinus infection down time normal to God?
Probably. Time to suck it up and just journey with God where I am. To make my down time worth it.
What is your normal? I encourage you to make your “normal” worth it too.
