The Rest

Posted on Friday, October 10, 2014

The following is an exerpt from a journal entry that I wrote a couple of days ago. Enjoy.

"I was on the U5 coming back to the flat and I saw this kid, 8th grade or so, wearing this backpack with some fairy characters on it. So, like a proper German, I was staring at the pack. Then I see the side of the pack and it says "Living in the rest." I thought that was rather profund for a backpack.

Then I realized that it actually said, "Living in the Forest." The F and and O were covered up by a butterfly.

But I am pretty sure that I saw what I was supposed to see. It made me think about what that even means, "living in the rest." And the question is, am I living in "the rest?"

I guess it depends on how you look at the word Rest. There is the actual definition: "refreashing ease or inactivity after exertion or labor, sleep..." But then I think about it in terms of what is left- like, the rest of life. (Like, are you going to eat the rest of that?)

I am not sure how to articulate this into a profound thought yet. But something like pursuing the rest of life- going out there and getting it- not just letting it happen to me. Living in such a way that there is no room to say "what will you do with the rest of your life?" Ha! Yes!

And now my thought pattern is shifting toward spiritual things. To be so filled with the spirit that there is no room for evil to pursue me.

"The rest of Kelsey belongs to me."- God

Now moving to physical and emotional rest. Is that Rest belonging to God as well? I want it to. Right now, in the state of transition I am in, I get physically tired in the afternoon. The battle will be only finding fulfillment in physically resting- taking a nap. And then forgetting about emotional rest. I need to not forget about the source that brings me back to life constantly. Whether I am tired or not.

I want to be constantly living in that rest as well.

"Living in the Rest."

Okay. I want to."
