An Honest Prayer

Posted on Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Dear God,

Sometimes this is really hard. I see these women, who are my friends, who I care about so much, and I want to help them, I want to make life better for them, but I can’t. When they need money, I want to provide them with it so they don’t need to work on the street, but I can’t do that and it actually wouldn’t help. When they are homeless or living with bad “boyfriends” I want to give them a place to sleep, but I can’t. I want people to have compassion, to offer them jobs and apartments when they apply, but they don’t trust these women.

It breaks my heart to see these women struggle, to want something different but not have the resources and support to have a new way of life, or to not trust those who are actually there to help them. It hurts me to see these women struggle, passed out from drugs or seeking fulfillment from something or someone other than you Lord.

I see these women searching for something more, wanting something else, and I want to hold them and say, “It’s Jesus you are looking for! You could have so much more if only you would… leave your “boyfriend”/ give up drugs/ believe in yourself and that your are worth more/ etc.!” But I can’t because they wouldn’t listen, it would only make them defensive and push them further away from you.

Lord all I can do is fall on my knees and pray and cry out to you that your JUSTICE would be realized on this street. All I can do is ask you to continue meeting these women where they are and to touch their hearts. God reveal yourself to them as you have revealed yourself to me. God here I am, please use me as an instrument in your work to help these women and further your kingdom. And help me to always show love and compassion so that it points back to you Father.

With Love,

Your daughter and humble servant,

Diedre
